Making basic shapes cinematic.
The Brief
The popularity of Brick has exploded over the last few months, with all of us realising that spending too much time on our phones detracts from our present, affecting everything from our mental health & attention spans, to our ability to connect with one another.
The main challenge was to make what is essentially a basic product shape and design feel compelling.
We needed to create a short form ad for socials and web that made it clear this little plastic cube represented an important idea- that we have control over our devices, not the other way around. And in doing so, capture customer attention and increase customer interest & engagement.
Creative Concept
Wouldn't it be great if we could go back to a time before smart phones every now and then? The design of Brick is a retro one- a solid grey plastic that feels like it could be an attachment to a Nintendo 64 or Lego set from the 90s. We wanted to lean into this nostalgic vibe, whilst keeping the motion minimalist and clean.
We started looking for inspiration in iconic old films. And then we remembered the intro credits to Star Wars. That slow motion on a dark background. Powerful contrast, consistent motion. Powerful, clean, epic.
Delivery
A cinematic, short form ad in both socials & web formats, with dramatic lighting & intense motion. A nostalgic and emotive composition with custom copy to show that this isn't just a little cube, this is Brick. This is the power of remembering. Remembering a time before smart phones, remembering that we have control over our devices, over our time and productivity.
Impact:
Increased brand perception, and improved customer interest and engagement to drive sales.
